If You want a professional looking thesis with a reasonable amount of pictures, InDesign is your Program! In this tutorial series you will learn the essentials and tricks that will make layouting fun and easy as pie.
Alternatives
InDesign pays off if you work with own graphics and diagrams. Ween you are manly working with formulas or use very few pictures, it might be more effective to use LaTeX.
However, I encourage you to learn layouting with InDesign. Its way easier than working with OpenOffice or Microsoft Word and will add a nice extra qualification to your curriculum vitae. If your boss needs some new brochure or a college new business cards, you will be their man!
Needed Programs
To follow this tutorial you need InDesign. The other things are nice to have, as they are used at some points.
